How to Use Your Electric Bill to Evaluate Solar

A recent electric bill is a practical starting point for understanding whether a solar proposal is tailored to your household. It provides the usage and utility context needed to discuss system design.

Look for your billing period and kilowatt-hours

Find the dates covered and your total electricity consumption, usually shown in kilowatt-hours (kWh). A single month may not represent the whole year, so annual usage history is more helpful when available.

Identify your utility and charges

A bill can show the utility, supply charges, delivery charges and fixed fees. Solar may affect some charges differently from others. Ask the consultant to explain which portions are included in any estimated comparison.

Protect personal details

Share only what is needed for a proposal review. You can cover account numbers or payment details that are not required, and should never share passwords or payment-card information.
