Roof Ventilation: Intake, Exhaust and Why Balance Matters

Roof ventilation is considered as part of the overall roof and attic design. Requirements depend on the existing home and applicable building standards.

Intake and exhaust work together

Ventilation systems typically need a balanced path for air movement. A ridge vent alone may not be appropriate if adequate intake is absent.

Inspect existing conditions

Attic configuration, insulation, obstructions and existing vents influence options. Ask what the roofing proposal includes and whether related attic work is excluded.

Avoid blanket promises

Ventilation does not solve every moisture or temperature issue by itself. A qualified review should consider the actual building conditions.
